Had a good time hanging out with family yesterday. Found out that I've been the star of a family story since about 1987.
My grandfather was a pastor at a small town church for years. We would go a few times out of the year to listen to him and the other kids, Thomas, and I would all play in Sunday school. Well, there was one Christmas celebration were we, the Church family, were up to sing a Christmas song. My grandmother asked for suggestions on what song to sing. Now I was seven at the time and my favorite Christmas song was and still is The Twelve Days of Christmas. Everyone agreed to this. This would have been great except for the fact nobody knew the words to the song after 5 golden rings. It didn't go well when compared to the other songs.
My family figured and banked on me, a seven year old, knowing all the words to this sing. After five everything else was mumbles and random words. So apparently I have been seen as the one to blame for the sing-a-long disaster, because having suggested the song I should have known the words. I was 7! I really liked the song and I wanted to hear it. I was offering a suggestion. So that was my claim to infamy.

Good fun at the Annual Christmas party. Apples 2 Apples is the main event of the party and I was glad to have a table to play the game instead of playing on the floor.

Here we go again
Best to start at the beginning.
Heather and I have been looking for work for a while. We were checking out the government jobs site and I've been looking on Craigslist.org and CareerBuilder. Well, there hasn't really been a lot of bites for hiring.
Another path we are going down it looking to my tribe, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. They offer housing assistance and give member priority for jobs. Heather has found a job up at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa as part of the housekeeping staff and I've also applied for front desk attendent and for housekeeping supervisor. I've also applied for a tech support job for Supplylink.inc. In the mean time I've started the paper work for a transfer to the Michaels in Traverse City.
With the help of Leane, we are looking for a place to live that we can afford as well as applying for renting a house through the tribe. In a short while, 3 weeks, we are going to be living in or around Traverse CIty. Needless to say I'm more then a little nervous and my stomach is doing loops as I'm typing this. I'm still going to be looking for tech jobs as well as apply for a CompTIA test to be A+ certified.

The Last Air Bender movie
Saw the Last Air Bender movie with Heather the other day. Didn't want to start critiquing the movie right away so I took a few days to think about it.
Now I really don't give a lot away about the movie and if you've seen the show then you already know the story.
As a fan of the show, the movie a little off. M. Night tried to push a lot into one movie. The movie was, for the most part, the first season. There were things that were left out and I can see them being left our for the sake of time. But I think that the whole movie moved rather fast. M. Night wanted to hit some of the big points from the show, but there are a lot of them when you are talking about a entire season.
Then I started to look at the movie as a retelling of the story. When I thought about it like that it wasn't as bad. Though I still thought that the movie moved along rather fast and didn't really make it possible to relate with the characters.
I then was reminded that this was a movie based from a kids cartoon, which one has to remember they don't have the longest of attention spans. It would have been nice if it was made more with an older audience in mind.
The special effects of the movie were outstanding. Apa and Momo were very well done and the bending was top notch. I didn't really mind the fact that the fire benders had to have fire around to bend, unlike the show. Which made the ability to create fire all the more powerful. The water benders had to have water around to bend or were SOL. Unless you have the air benders in a vacuum, they are the only ones that have their element all around them.

Sunday in Kentucky
Been having a fun time here at my Brother's and Sister-in-law's house. Thomas is out in CA training his troops so Heather and I are here to visit and help out with Sam. The little guy is a walking fiend and is a fast learner. Heather was feeding Sam his lunch and was able to take a spoon to feed himself. :) Not bad for a baby about to turn one.
Sam has also been working on his talking skills. He's got the "Ma-ma" and "Da-da" part all set so we've been pointing to things and repeating the word for that object. He's close to saying "Cooper", who is Thomas' and Marcy's dog.
The weather has been great. Sunny and clear. The heat is something we could do with out. In the 90s. Was about 92 when we got here Sat and today is the same. Tomorrow is going to be around 96. Good Times.
Had a great time on Thursday. Got to hang out with the elusive Katie from Canada. We relived a Calder trip to Chicago and had sushi at the amazing Tokyo Grill. It was great catching up and talking about various topics and current events. Tokyo Grill has some of the best sushi rice that I've ever had.
After food, we headed to the Woodland mall to kill time before we visited Liz at work. We stopped in the Apple store where we looked at iPod touch cases and where I drooled over the iMacs. Mmmm iMacs. We ended our mall trip at Barnes and Noble to take a look at the graphic novels.
We stopped my Liz's work so she would have a chance to see and talk with Katie. Liz is was on the phone with her boss talking about taking donations to help with the oil leak that had put millions of gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo river. The store is called Iskape Audiobooks.
After seeing Liz, Katie and I drove to her folks' house to regroup and then left for downtown Holland to see her Father's band, Wildwood Folk, take part in Street performer Thursday. When walking to where they were playing, a small dog got away from their owner and ran up to me barking up a storm. I think the dog didn't like my sandals.
Later on Phil joined us and we went for ice cream. On the way back from ice cream we had to see the DeLorean. Katie was getting a little annoyed at how I was fiddling with my BlackBerry. I was trying to upload pictures to Facebook, that wasn't working. I later found out that it was my phone's geotagging that was causing the problem. The ironic part was that Katie took Phil's phone to post on his Facebook. Which lead to out nick names. Katie is Katie-zorz, Phil is Philbo, while I'm Michael Monster. I have Leane to thank for mine and I think it is fitting.
After the band was done singing, we all went to the New Holland Brewery for dinner. Katie's father was kind enough pay for everyone. While there I bought a poster of their ale called Dragon's Milk. I would have had some, but I had to drive home, I didn't have anything to eat for a while, and it was 10% ABV.
Was so awesome to see and talk with Katie again. Hadn't had a chance to do that for months.
